How to EnableDisable Spotlight Indexing in macOS Sierra

Spotlight in OS X can be used to quickly find files and applications You can enable or disable Spotlight using these steps

Completely Disable Spotlight Indexing

First you may have to disable System Integrity Protection (SIP) to perform these steps.

  • From the finder, select Go > Utilities > Terminal. this will open your terminal
  • Type one of the following commands, then press Enter:

Enable Indexing – sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist

enable spotlight search

For Disable Indexing – sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
